In July of this year, I experienced what seemed to be one of the strangest, yet happiest days of 2016.
Titled Melbourne’s Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever, it involved up to 2000 Kate Bush fans paying tribute by dressing in red and dancing to the iconic aforementioned song.
Covering the event for DNA magazine, I arrived on the scene with camera in hand, my dangling media pass and a huge smile. Why the smile?
Well apart from the fact that Kate Bush is my all-time favourite (yes, that’s for the record) and that her artistry rivals the likes of Bowie, Morrissey or Prince, I was surrounded by similarly likeminded people.
So the smile was in fact, infectious.
Everyone was happy with a kind of enigmatic glow that seemed to spread across the wiley and windy…well, let’s say moors!
Melbourne’s Botanical Gardens in the Kings Domain seemed to welcome the record-breaking crowd that, after two major choreographed rehearsals, gave a performance that would have made even the most diehard Pokemon Go fans drop their smart phones in disbelief.
Everybody was so gleeful and keen for a photo, keen to dance and keen to get their bush on.
My only regret was that I wasn’t actually participating in the performance – quite an intricate dance routine including moves such as ‘It’s nine o’clock’, ‘serve the plates’ and ‘the zombie walk’. Roll on 2017, because if it’s happening again someone else can play media, as I’ll be amidst the crowd getting my bush on. Red dress, black wig and loving it!
